AI image generation is one of the most widely used features, with ChatGPT and Gemini being two of the preferred options for most users. However, when Gemini launched its image generator, it didn't take long for Google to add a watermark identifier to the corners of any AI-generated image.
To some extent, this meant that the watermark ended up being more of an annoyance in most cases. Google's original goal was to improve safety by making AI-generated content easier to identify, but in the end, many users ended up using third-party tools to remove the visible watermark from images generated by Gemini.
When did Gemini remove the visible watermark from its image generator?
Starting on August 14, Google announced the removal of the watermark from Gemini's image generator. This has been rolled out gradually, but it's important to clarify that the watermark that has been removed is the one that used to appear in the bottom-right corner. The watermark is still embedded internally in the images through metadata, but for everyday use, there's nothing to worry about.
Users can still keep the watermark if they want to. This can be done through the settings menu, which allows users to add or disable Gemini's visible watermark.
Therefore, from this point on, you can generate any image with Gemini without having an annoying watermark appear. After all, Google itself acknowledged that many users had complained about visible watermarks on AI-generated images, making Gemini practically one of the few models that did this, because ChatGPT, its biggest rival, never has.
