CES 2025 has been filled with exciting news, much of it involving innovations in the field of artificial intelligence and improvements in generative processes. However, yesterday Nvidia made one of the most important announcements: its RTX 50 series, which introduces a new model of next-generation AI-powered graphics cards. Essentially, they promise unprecedented performance thanks to AI.

The series will start with the RTX 5070, priced at $549, which, according to speculations, could match the performance of the RTX 4090 in specific situations (though there are likely some limitations). Nvidia’s flagship graphics card will be the RTX 5090, starting at $1999. All the cards in this lineup are designed to maximize performance in areas involving artificial intelligence tasks, meaning the development and training of new learning models will be another path Nvidia seeks to excel in.

On the other hand, it seems that AMD was aware of Nvidia’s specifications and prices before the presentation, which is why many news outlets argue that this could be the main reason they didn’t provide detailed information about their new series of graphics cards. To be honest, AMD has been out of direct competition with Nvidia in terms of the latest technological innovations they’ve shown, so it’s not hard to question whether a fear of offering much less than Nvidia was the reason they canceled at the last moment. However, these are just speculations, of course.

AMD did show some interesting launches, even though they didn’t deliver everything that was expected. For example, their new RDNA 4 graphics architecture, which is set to power their new series of graphics cards. Additionally, they showcased the Ryzen 9 9950X3D and Ryzen 9 9900X3D processors, which aim to offer up to 20% more performance in demanding games like Cyberpunk 2077. They also showed some important collaborations that aim to further boost performance in laptops. The announcement was more focused on their new chips and improved architecture, both for gaming and AI-related tasks.

Did AMD live up to Nvidia at CES 2025?

The answer seems to be no, at least in terms of impact. Nvidia was the focus of most of the news, especially regarding its new series of graphics cards, which, by the way, will be released at the end of this month. Additionally, Nvidia’s IA and collaboration appear to be significantly ahead of what AMD can offer. However, AMD did show some interesting data, and perhaps the fact that they didn’t reveal detailed information about their new graphics card lineup might turn out to be positive, as it could allow them to offer a more complete product for such a competitive market.
