By default the Hengja comes locked for specific desk ranges > 1″ in thickness, but I had it easily expand to cover a 1 3/8″ desk by opening up the socket and expanding the Hengja clamp.
So then I went with a very thin desk which my kids portable desks are.
In this case, the Hengja does need some padding because it can screw closed so much the grip head falls out.
So putting a little cardboard, stickers or any other small padding was able to make the Hengja headphone hanger have no problems with desks that were 1/2″ thick. Overall works well, kid now uses it full time to hold his headset.
