Through the years of testing tech products, I’m not often completely blown away by a product. I’m always happy when they do what they advertise, or work exactly as intended, but not often do they completely exceed my expectations. The UBOOM speaker from EarFun is one of those rare products that exceeded expectations. I’ve tested a lot of speakers through the years and so far this is the most impressive ones I’ve used yet. Let’s talk about how this speaker works and what you need to know about it.
Using the EarFun UBOOM speaker
Right out of the box, it’s pretty easy to set up. You simply charge it in a USB port and wait for the power button on the top go from red to blue. You have the option to connect it through Bluetooth or through a 3.5mm aux cord. It sadly didn’t come with its own 3.5mm aux cord, which would have been helpful, but I do have some around. That’s something you’ll want to keep in mind if you buy one, though.
This speaker can also be used for phone calls since it has a built-in microphone. The microphone also allows it to be paired with things like Siri, Google Now, or other voice-enabled assistants. With the UBOOM speaker, you can sync two speakers at once to create a “left and right” effect, but I only have one so I can’t test that feature.
You have the option of switching between indoor and outdoor sound on this speaker. The main difference between the two is that for the indoor sound, the bass is enhanced.
Overall thoughts and other features
As I’ve mentioned, the sound on the UBOOM speaker is top-notch. It has the best sound I’ve heard on a speaker this size. The audio/voice and the bass are both incredible. Songs, tv shows, and podcasts all sound good on this speaker. It can also get incredibly loud, even comparable to the soundbar on my tv.
This speaker is IPX7 waterproof, which allows it to be even fully submerged and not break. It gives you the confidence that you can truly bring it anywhere without worrying about the weather. This speaker can also be paired through Bluetooth for up to 100 feet, giving you the ability to roam around without having to stay close to your speaker. I tested this as far as I could go in my space and didn’t have a single interruption with the connection.
On top of all of these features and such a great sound, it also has a 16-hour battery life. It takes about four hours to fully charge, but that’s worth it for such an impressive sound and battery life.
