Well Halloween 2019 is upon us and if you are not partaking in going trick or treating with kids or you aren’t going to the movies you may want to engage in some horror gaming which is all the rage with game streamers. Here is a list of 5 horror games you may want to check out today and I included a mix of brand new and old ones you may have missed. I also added the benefit of showcasing some of our streams of them.
Moons of Madness
Moons of Madness just released on October 22nd 2019 on Steam and is a space themed horror game published by Funcom that also has loose ties to The Secret World universe which is their big horror MMO that I was a huge fan of. The game starts off a bit slow as you are an astronaut on Mars trying to fix an installation up but quickly descends into a Lovecraftian horror style game with puzzles, jump scares and tentacles :) I would say the game should be appealing to Alien: Isolation fans but has a bit of a slower burn, less jump scares and more story in my opinion.

Outlast
Released in 2013, Outlast was a defining moment for the drama of stealth horror games where you had no ability to fight and kill the things that attacked you but you can only run and hide and not be discovered. In outlast you play the role as investigative journalist Miles Upshur and are acting on an anonymous tip to explore Mount Massive Asylum and you quickly discover the horrors within.

Alien: Isolation
The game really captures the claustrophobia and fear of the original Alien film with you playing as Ripley’s daughter who arrives at a space station that had a mysterious accident. Soon after you are trying to survive against androids, the deadly Xenomorph all while trying to keep your wits about you and be as stealthy as possible.

The Blackout Club
For a co-op scare experience that involve stealth and mystery missions look no further than The Blackout Club which is a first person co-op horror where you and up to 3 other players are a group of teenage friends trying to investigate a secret beneath their small town. You find the adults are part of some weird cult to The Shape and are guided on by some old god through dreams. Everything isn’t as it seems and you can close your eyes in the game and see hidden clues and messages. The game also uses your own mic to augment your experience adding in sound and scares based on your own mic input. It is more of a Body Snatchers meets Stranger Things vibe than super scary, there are some jump scares but relatively minor and is more of a spooky atmosphere overall.

The Dark Pictures Anthology: Man of Medan
From the creators of Until Dawn, The Dark Pictures Anthology is a series of stand-alone, branching cinematic horror games featuring a multiplayer mode where other people can join your game in local co-op or online co-op. In Man of Medan, five friends set sail on a holiday diving trip that soon changes into something much more sinister… when they discover a ghost ship. Like Until Dawn decisions you make determine if the characters live or die and there are multiple endings. This is the first chapter in the series with the 2nd chapter coming out in 2020.

Dying Light
Released in 2015, Dying Light is a fast and furiously paced Zombie Survival game that has a co-op campaign that you can play with friends. The zombies are horrifically quick and you are facing an endless horde of zombies in a city. This game is part stealth but really you can’t stealth for long before you make enough noise to have a hungry pack of zombies coming to tear you to shreds, you scavenge weapons, supplies, and craft gear to help survive against the undead horde while doing missions.

The Beast Inside
Another new game just released in October 2019 that is rather a hidden gem, The Beast Inside is a unique, gripping twist on thriller and survival horror. You play as Adam, the CIA cryptanalyst who moves to the countryside with his wife and finds the journal of Nicolas Hyde. The game has you bounce back and forth playing as two protagonists with a connected heritage. You combat enemies, solve riddles and experience real terror in the 3D-scanned environment and really it was unique and a great experience.
