The Premium Series Gold Plated HDMI Cables by Solid Cordz

Hey there.  I used to think that cables don’t matter.  It didn’t matter what kind of cable is being used as long as it fits and it works.  I would often buy the cheapest cords or wires based on this belief.  Many times, it would end up in disappointment since many of the wires or cords would end up useless within a few weeks.  DAMN YOU 99 CENT STORE WIRES!!!  lol  Anyways, I recently decided to move into the 21st century.  I finally ended up getting a big screen HDTV for the living room.  I know… I know… I’m all late to the party.  I was still rocking standard definition a few weeks ago and after seeing HDTV after HDTV, I finally decided that it was time to upgrade.  But with that upgrade, came the choice of picking HDMI cables.  Bad habits being hard to break, I ended up back at getting a cheapo HDMI cable.  It got the job done but I wasn’t wowed by the picture.  Something wasn’t right.  I thought that maybe it was a setting on TV.  After fiddling with it and finding nothing, a conversation with my brother shed some light on the situation:  Get a decent HDMI cable.  And that I did.  Acually, I got two.  Our good friends at Solid Cordz provided me with 2 Premium Series Gold Plated HDMI cables!  So what sets these cables apart from the rest?  Before getting into my experience with the cables, let me provide you with some technical specs:

Now, I don’t have a fancy home theater system so I wasn’t able to put that 4K resolution to the test.  I swapped out my standard HDMI cables with the Solid Cordz Gold Plated HDMI cables and hooked up my PS3 to my 55 inch HDTV.  Almost instantly, I could hear the difference in sound and I could see the crisp look in video.  I decided to give it two tests.  First up was The Walking Dead Season 3 Blu Ray Disc.  I popped it in and enjoyed the show.  Video was extremely smooth and sound was crisp and clear.  I even joked with the family that I was able to see Andrea’s pores on her face.  But after a few scenes, I realized I actually COULD see her pores.  lol  Yeah, the resolution is THAT good.  Now, with the standard HDMI cable, I noticed that that when the action got heavy on screen, the video playback would lag slightly.  Not too bad, but enough to where it could be noticeable.  Even though there are a few fighting scenes in The Walking Dead, I need something with a lot of movement, something with a lot of moving parts, and something with a lot of sound.  I took out The Walking Dead Blu-ray and I popped in Final Fantasy XIII-2.

Now, the reason I chose a Final Fantasy game is because they tend to put their best foot forward in the opening scenes of their games.  FFXII-2 has one lengthy intro and plenty of movement, action, and sound.  Sounds like the perfect setting to really test out the Solid Cordz HDMI cables.  As the intro played, we all watched in amazement.  No stutter, no glitches, no interruptions.  Nothing but glorious HD video at its highest quality.  I can honestly say that I was impressed.  I’ve never seen Lightning look so good.  Don’t believe me?  Check out Lightning and Caius in the middle of a battle.

As for the quality of the build, the Solid Cordz Gold plated HDMI cables are extremely well built.  One of the tell tale signs of a cheap cable is the build of the port.  I kid you not, I’ve had cords where they literally fell apart in my hands BEFORE I even had a chance to plug them in.  These Solid Cordz cables are sturdy and the cord itself is made of flexible yet strong rubber coating.  I’ve only had them for a week or so so I can’t definitively speak on their durability but from what I can see and feel, the thick wire seems to be built to last.  And the gold plated HDMI port is extremely well made.  The gold plated connection is well fitted to the port and there is absolutely no loose fitting connection anywhere to be found.

The only negative thing that I can say about these HDMI cords is that they have made me realize that I need to give the screen justice and get a home theater system.  lol  A screen this crisp deserves better than built in speakers.  I’m going to need a sound bar and surround sound real soon!
