Hello, everyone! Today I will be providing some sweet relief if you’re like me and have a hard time buying presents for all those technology lovers in your life. Sometimes it can be difficult finding a good present to buy that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg. Have no fear, however, because I believe I’ve found the answer to our problems! Here are some great books to consider for the 2016 holiday season.
First book I would like to briefly discuss is Android Programming: The Big Nerd Ranch Guide (2nd Edition). This book is, essentially, a beginners guide to writing code and programming apps that are designed for the Android platform. The app market is an ever growing field and, with the help from this book, you and your loved ones can gain a lot of knowledge from The Big Nerd Ranch Guide.
The second book is Present! A Techie’s Guide to Public Speaking. Now, if you’re like me and 90% of everyone else in the world, you might have a hard time speaking in public. Hopefully, with the help of this book, you’ll learn some techniques that will ease your discomfort and provide you with the tools necessary to finally get your ideas out there! This book was written by professionals, so you know this knowledge comes with proven results. You can always take it one step further and attend online public speaking workshops or take up coaching.
Next, we have Code: The Hidden of Computer Hardware and Software. Now, coming from experience, I can understand why this might not be a glamorous option. Coding is often considering tedious and a rather daunting task, but this book breaks down things you wouldn’t think of and shows how code is apart of our every day life a lot more than you might’ve thought. This will hopefully open your mind to some of the inner workings of computers and machines you use all the time.
The Fourth book I would like to cover is The Ultimate Guide to Video Game and Design. Let’s be honest, we all wanted to do this at one point or another. We either wanted to be a tester, coder or writer; basically anything to do with video games, we were in. This book will help you immerse yourself into the world of video game writing and design and provide key information to get you started. It will also help teach you how to properly present your ideas to the right people.
Finally, I would like to take a different step into the direction of fictional writing. Ready Player One is regarded as one of the best books for the tech savvy and is enthralling from start to end. The reviews are overwhelmingly positive and I have had this book suggested to me. If you’re into reading as much as I am, I know you or anyone you know who loves reading as well are going to love this book. Here’s a brief description taken right from Amazon:
- “In the year 2044, reality is an ugly place. The only time teenage Wade Watts really feels alive is when he’s jacked into the virtual utopia known as the OASIS. Wade’s devoted his life to studying the puzzles hidden within this world’s digital confines—puzzles that are based on their creator’s obsession with the pop culture of decades past and that promise massive power and fortune to whoever can unlock them.
But when Wade stumbles upon the first clue, he finds himself beset by players willing to kill to take this ultimate prize. The race is on, and if Wade’s going to survive, he’ll have to win—and confront the real world he’s always been so desperate to escape.”

I’m 28 and currently living in upstate New York. I’m an amateur review writer, mostly for movies, and I’m looking to take it to the next level.
