Windows 7 Tip: Window Shifting

Windows 7 has a quick and easy way for you to align your windows left and right so you can easily have applications open side by side, you can also minimize any window with 2 keystrokes, and center align or expand an application window. To do this you just need to leverage the “Windows” hotkey plus your arrow keys.

  • Windows + Left Arrow = Left align your window, will exactly shrink your window to 100% vertical and 50% horizontal screen (left)
  • Windows + Right Arrow = Right align your window, will exactly shrink your window to 100% vertical and 50% horizontal screen (right)
  • Windows + Down Arrow = Remove Full Screen Window or Minimize Window to Task Bar (if your app window is not in full screen mode)
  • Windows + Up Arrow = Maximize your windows to full screen (if window is any size other than full screen)
