Today marks the release of the Alienware Steam machine. There has been much hype behind these devices and as you may have seen I got my hands on one.

The Alienware Steam Machine comes packed with all the goodies, from the Intel CPU to the graphics card. They range from lowest tier Steam box to there top tier. The price range isn’t that bad either for what packed in the little package and dollar for dollar you get more power in the Steam Machine than an Xbox One, PlayStation 4 console. In fact I found it impossible to find an equal priced “budget gaming rig” from any manufacturer that gave you as good of specs in hardware for the price of a Steam Machine.

As you can see from the specs and the price range they are rather decent. They also through in is PAYDAY2 + DLC* (available in SteamOS in early 2016), Roller Disco Derby and Screencheat. Along with WAR THUNDER DLC, Brawlhalla DLC, and Coffin Dodgers demo. All worth over $200 in the packages which means you are getting a lot of games with your rig not just the rig for that price.
Now if that wasn’t enough for you to want to buy one lets talk about the size. The Alienware Steam Machine is so small it can fight about anywhere. With around 4 pounds and the size of a Wii console. You will be impressed with the size and performance for sure.
Dimensions and Weight
Height: 2.7″ (55mm) | Width: 7.87″ (200mm) | Depth: 7.87″ (200mm) | Weight: 4lbs (1.81kg)
The Steam Controller is rather new and very fun to use.
If your into a small form factor PC with access to a decent library this would be for you. The Alienware Steam Machine has access to over 1500 SteamOS compatible games and another 4500 games on steam itself via streaming from your pC. They tell us there are more then 100 games coming to steam OS every month.
So PC gamers will tell you about how much is lacking in the game library, but you are getting more games than most consoles had available at Day 1 and some of the newest Early Access games on Steam are coming to SteamOS including ARK: Survival Evolved. You can also add non-Steam games from your PC to stream to your SteamOS so yes, you can play Heroes of the Storm or other Blizzard games on your SteamOS as well.
So if your looking for that new gift for your child or the man in your life this may be the way to go. You know Christmas is right around the corner.
With machines ranging for around $450 to $750 they have one for every budget, and the key here is over 100 new games being added per month. A Steam Machine is in it’s infancy but this is truly the best of both worlds for someone wanting something more flexible and powerful than a console, but doesn’t want a full Windows PC and wants to keep a device in the living room dedicated to gaming.
Again, the Steam Machine has some limitations due to SteamOS which are with the new Valve operating system, but not a fault of the device itself and updates should improve. These limitations include not being able to live stream natively to Twitch or YouTube Gaming, which we consider a pretty big limitation for a game machine these days. They also do need to bring the newest titles to SteamOS faster, the lack of some major titles like Star Wars: Battlefront, Battlefield 4, and other titles not being in the Steam library are a deterrent though you can always add them as Non-Steam games and stream from your PC. The Steam Machine isn’t a replacement for your Gaming PC but is a living room compliment that lets a family member play your Steam Library without taking over your whole PC while you do other things too. It also is good and will eventually get better for co-op play if you want to keep people playing together in the same room. You can also pair up to 4 Steam Controllers or Xbox or PS4 controllers with it too.
