Gaming headsets are a huge part of a good experience. When you have a good headset, you’re able to hear everything going on around you and you don’t miss out on things happening during gameplay. These headphones from DeepDream are a great option, especially when you consider their price point. If you’re looking for a pair that gets the job done, has good sound, and is easy to use, then you’ll definitely want to check out the DeepDream GM-5 gaming headset.

Comfort of the Beexcellent GM-5

Right out of the box, the DeepDream headset is a little stiff. It took a few hours for it to feel comfortable. After that, it felt more comfortable and was easy to wear for hours. They’re made out of plastic with a metal band through the top. The earcups don’t cup my ear entirely, so if that’s something you’re looking for you might have to try a different pair. (To be fair, it could also be the shape of my head.)

Mic quality and thoughts

Here is a clip of the audio recorded from this headset:

Overall, it’s not the sharpest microphone I’ve used, but you can still hear what I’m saying and you can’t hear other noises around me. The microphone is solid, so you can’t bend it closer or farther to your body, but it does rotate up and down if you want it out of the way.

Connection options

The DeepDream GM-5 headset can be used with the Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC/Mac. Because of the 3.5mm cord, it also can connect to most devices, like your phone, tablet, or handheld gaming console. It also comes with a 1-to-2 3.5mm jack splitter cable if you have a device with a jack for a mic and a headphone. You don’t need any software to use these, you simply plug them in and start using them right away.

The Cord, Remote, and Sound

The cord is about 6′ long and made out of nylon material on the DeepDream headset. The remote has a microphone on and off switch along with a volume control nob for easy access. The remote is also fairly large for only so many controls, but that does help if you want to find it fast.

Just like with all gaming headsets I review, I play them with loud games, quiet games, and horror games. I think that gives a full experience and a well-rounded idea of what a headset can offer when it comes to sound. I think if they cupped my ears completely, I could hear better, but overall the sound was still pretty good. I could hear highs and lows and everything sounded sharp. These aren’t completely noise canceling, but when the volume is up high it blocks out a lot of surrounding noise.
