Yuji Itadori, pink hair that is completely unrealistic and could never happen in real life CHECK! Someone close to him dying CHECK! Yuji Itadori is a perfect guideline for a main character, I say this because he fits every category. All the way from his loveable goofy personality, to his unrealistic hair, or even his desire to be in the occult club at his school instead of using his incredible athleticism for sports and even given the name of “The Tiger of West Junior High”.

From the get-go, we see a young teenager who is incredibly keen on kindness. Itadori is seen immediately at the beginning of the episode demonstrating his immense and unhuman-like strength.

Now that we have our snacks, drinks, and all we need for the rest of this episode so now let us start.

(SPOILERS FROM NOW ON)
Itadori and his friends from the occult club find a gross-looking dark red finger, which the club members plan on bringing to the school late at night to sort of study on. Itadori skips out on going to school with the suspicious finger and would rather spend time “mourning” his grandfathers passing in the hospital. This is where we meet Megumi Fushiguro, he gives a sort of grim impression early on and is startled when he learns from Itadori that the finger had been in the hands of two high schoolers, late at night, in a school…

Fushiguro begins running to the school, and Itadori follows soon after realizing his friends might be in danger. Megumi runs head first and tells Itadori to wait outside, after Megumi leaves Itadori to his own devices, Itadori realizing he is the main character of the show takes off, jumping over the gate and entering the building.

Inside the building, the two kids from before who were in the occult club, Setsuko Sasaki and Takeshi Iguchi (Sasaki and Iguchi) are attacked by what seems to them invisible creatures, but to us, ugly monsters that are incredibly disturbing called “curses” explained to us by Fushiguro before, the finger they once possessed gets stolen by the creature.

As they are getting attacked, Fushiguro swoops in with his cute little wolves, and just before we get to pet them, one of them is bashed into a wall and inevitably gone, Fushiguro demonstrates a sort of summoning ability, pretty dope man! The tables start turning and Fushiguro gets cornered, it’s not looking great and just in time, our knight in shining armor Itadori arrives to save the day, kicking the monster and drawing its attention. Unfortunately, one little kick from our protagonist isn’t enough to take it down, it quickly breaks through a wall and sets Itadori and Fushiguro into a panic. Outside, Itadori is grabbed by the curse and Fushiguro explains that at all costs not let the creature consume the finger as it would give it immense power.

Well Fushiguro, now was saying that out loud to our hot-headed main character a great idea? Itadori takes that information and jumps up to snatch the finger with his mouth, and in one grossly foul gulp, he manages to swallow it faster than my snacks. He does the famous “main character one tap” and disperses the curse in the blink of an eye. Itadori looks a little different, tattoos appear all over his body, and one little mouth on the sides of both cheeks.

It is learned that his body has been taken over by Ryomen Sukuna, a curse of great power put into cursed objects, and now a living embodiment of cursed energy. This is where Fushiguro yells that he must exterminate Itadori because he is now considered a powerful curse, and to which Itadori explains that he is in control of whatever is inside his body. Just before anything else happens, a mysterious man with a blindfold, beautiful white hair, and wearing black clothing appears. Satoru Gojo as Sukuna calls his name, Gojo asks Itadori to test switching out with Sukuna for exact amounts of time to show how much control he has, which Itadori flawlessly proves that Sukuna is not running this show, silly Sukuna, Itadori is the protagonist!

Gojo knocks Itadori out and soon after Itadori wakes up in a room filled with papers and weird writing, and explains that his only options are to consume the rest of the fingers and join Jujutsu High School, a school for Jujutsu Sorcerers like Fushiguro, or be killed, to which Itadori embraces his brand new career as a Jujutsu Sorcerer!

Wow what an amazing first episode! And what a gross finger! The power system in this show is nothing short of cool and is such an amazing beauty, not to mention the artwork being all-around incredible. An anime that truly needs to be seen for what it is, a guideline for the hero’s journey.
