Thanks for the internet, you have a huge variety printing services available for your photographs. So many, in fact, that you may feel quite overwhelmed in terms of how to find the best professional photo printing service that is out there. Thankfully, with a little bit of research, you should be able to find just what you are looking for, but before you send your photo’s to print you may want to use a free paint program like Paint.NET to touch them up so your prints look the best or even make them a bit artsy.

The first thing you want to do is download Paint.NET and do a Google Search for the BoltBait plugin pack for Paint Dot Net which gives you additional effects, filters and tools.  There are dozens of extensions and plugins to get Paint.NET just as efficient as GIMP and nearly as good as Adobe Photoshop for doing image manipulation.  You can even get a Paint.NET plugin so it can open PSD files to work on with all layers fully functional as well.

Before you go into editing your photos you may want to learn how to properly edit a photograph, of course this could help you know what to improve, tweak and get the best image that you can get.  With Paint.NET and it’s ability to use layers like Photoshop this gives you the ability to manipulate portions of the image and overlay effects, touch ups and other features to enhance images that may have slight imperfections or if you are trying to simply add more of an artistic flare to an image you can accomplish that as well.

Manipulating Photo’s in Paint.NET

So when you have an image in Paint.Net say you want to do color flipping and give your image the pop-art screen print look, then the Color Flip/Rotate tool is the one you want for that.

Say you want to make white or dark lines pop out or you have some graininess to your image, you can use the BoltBait remove dust filter and see how it applies to your image, when applied this filter made the white ropes of the balloon pop out more.

You can also do some artistic styling and make it look like an ink or pencil drawing with some features like ink sketch, which I tend to use when I want to create gravatars or drawing like appearances for photographs.  You can adjust the Ink Outline and coloring to make it look darker and give the appearance of it being more hand drawn as well, it is a simple effect that is fun to play around with.

This is just the icing on the cake, you have red eye removal, layers, outlines, feathering and so many more effects you can apply to help touch up photos and turn your images into art.  Though Paint.NET isn’t as powerful as Photoshop it comes darn close and the same tips to edit a photograph apply to Paint.Net though the tools, extensions and functions may be slightly different or not as feature rich it is passable for experimentation.
